PLACES OF INTEREST :
The principal richness of Mons la Trivalle lies, without a doubt, in its extraordinary natural surroundings, a happy association of the grandeur and variety of mountain landscapes (gorges, ravines, peaks), superb waterfalls and rivers, and the vineyards backed by the endless hills.
The flora is typically Mediterranean : Holm oaks, strawberry trees, cistus, Montpellier maples, and the fauna more typical of the mountain : mouflon, wild boar and over 130 species of bird including dippers, blue rock thrushes and harriereagles. The name Trivalle also comes from the fact that it is at the confluence of three rivers, the Orb, the Héric and the Jaur. If you enjoy historic architecture you will love the 12th C Voulte Chapel on the banks of the Orb in Tarassac, a classified monument, and a number of 13th C houses in Mons itself.
ACTIVITIES :
Just strolling around, you will find superb landscapes here, with ideal spots for fishing, bathing, and other special areas where you can relax in the sun.
Hikers will want to explore the fabulous Gorges d'Héric, the magnificent scenery and take full advantage of the games areas.
Those who enjoy walking will love exploring the Héric Gorges taking the main track up to the hamlet of Héric, still inhabited and where, after your climb, you can enjoy a refreshing icecold drink on the shady terrace of the refreshment bar. The area is a paradise for long-distance wal-kers and rock climbers : the Caroux is a high plateau where one can walk for days along old mule tracks, often bound by wild and fascinating rock formations.
The Prades Mill (Moulin), below the Tarassac bridge, is an ideal site for canoeing. Introductory courses are available and there are boats for hire. You can also explore the Orb accompanied by professional monitors and enjoy its pools, beaches and rapids to the full.
